GEDmatch.Com Policy Statement

GEDCOMs

Everybody who uploads files to this site must provide a valid email address for the principle contact. This allows the administrator to contact them if necessary. It also provides a mechanism to verify your identity if you want to contact us. Your email address may also be displayed along with any matches to your genealogy (see 'Public' and 'Private' below).

GEDCOMs uploaded to GEDmatch.Com remain the property of the person who uploaded it. When you upload your genealogy, you will be provided a unique ID number for that GEDCOM. If you ever want your GEDCOM removed from the site, send an email to the site administrator at GEDmatch@Gmail.Com . Be sure to include the ID number that was assigned when you uploaded your GEDCOM. Except in unusual circumstances, we also require that you send the email request from the same address that was provided when you uploaded. We usually are able to comply with requests for deletion within 24 hours.

There are 2 classes of GEDCOMs on this site: 'Private' and 'Public'. You select which category you want to be in when you upload your GEDCOM. If you ever want to change the category, send an email request to the site administrator.

'Private' GEDCOMs are not available to anybody unless they have your ID number. We do not give out that information. You will be able to make comparisons with anybody else when you also have their ID number, and you will be able to make comparisons to anybody who has made their GEDCOM public (see next paragraph).

'Public' GEDCOMs are available for comparison to anybody using the 'Compare 1 GEDCOM with all public GEDCOMs' feature. If they do not have at least 1 match with your GEDCOM, they will never see your GEDCOM ID number, your email address, or any information on your genealogy. If they DO have at least one match, then the basic information (email address, donor name, etc.) that you provided when you uploaded plus your GEDCOM ID number may be shown to them along with the matching names. They may also be able to use the tools provided on this site to explore information about the relatives of their matches. In general, the 'public' option should greatly increase the chances of finding potential matches.

Whether you submit a 'Public' or 'Private' GEDCOM, your genealogy information is not available to the casual web surfer or to the search engines (e.g. Google).

If you are concerned about the privacy of living individuals in your GEDCOM, you should use your genealogy program to 'privatize' your GEDCOM when you create it.

We will never sell your information. We will never provide your GEDCOM or email address to 3rd parties, except as noted above.

DNA Data

Everybody who uploads files to this site must provide a valid email address for the principle contact. This allows the administrator to contact them if necessary. It also provides a mechanism to verify your identity if you want to contact us. When you upload a file, you may also be given the option to allow your email address to be provided to your matches. If you haven't selected this option, the site administrator(s) may sometimes act as an intermediary to establish contact between matching individuals. However, the site administrator(s) are under no obligation to act as an intermediary. If you don't want to be contacted for any purpose, you may notify the site administrator of your wishes.

DNA data uploaded to GEDmatch.Com remains the property of the person who uploaded it. When you upload a file, you will be asked to provide a kit number. If you do not provide a kit number, a number may be assigned to you. This number should be unique to the individual, and will be used on the pages of this site to identify your data. If you wish to contact the site adminsitrator regarding your data, you must provide the kit number associated with your data. If you ever wish to have your data removed from the site, send an email request to the site administrator.

There are 2 classes of DNA data on this site: 'Private' and 'Public'. You may be asked to select which category you want to be in when you upload your DNA data. This means it may also be available to search engines (e.g. Google). The raw data that you uploaded is not made available.

In some cases, such as the Triangulation utility, the program depends on certain information being displayed - such as names and email addresses. You will be notified of this on the upload page, and you have the option of not participating. If you choose to partiicpate in a program that displays your name or email address, that information may also be displayed along with results on other pages on this site.

We will never sell your information. We will never provide your raw data or email address to 3rd parties, except as noted above.
